Delegation from the Ombudsman and Equality Council of Moldova pays a courtesy call on the Speaker

The Parliamentary Ombudsman, Judge Emeritus Joseph Zammit McKeon, together with the Ombudsman of Moldova, Mr Ceslav Panico, Mr Ian Feldman, President of the Equality Council of Moldova, and Ms Mirela Chiriac, Project Officer of the Council of Europe, paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of the House, the Hon. Anglu Farrugia.

The People’s Advocate and the Equality Council of Moldova delegation are in Malta on a study visit regarding issues of discrimination, hate speech, and hate crimes in the Republic of Moldova. This visit is part of a joint programme by the European Union and the Council of Europe’s “Partnership for Good Governance.”

During the meeting, the Ombudsman of Malta, Judge Zammit McKeon, emphasised the importance of such study visits, enabling institutions to learn from each other and share experiences and practices. The Ombudsman thanked the Speaker of the House for hosting the meeting in the Parliament building, confirming how open and accessible the Parliament is to its institutions.

The Speaker of the House gave a brief overview of the history of the Maltese Parliament and outlined the various activities hosted by the Maltese Parliament to remain as close as possible to the people, especially children and younger people.
