This milestone event will bring together Ombudsman institutions and human rights defenders from across Europe and the Mediterranean to reflect on the important theme: Upholding Good Governance in Challenging Times: The Role of the Ombudsman.

As part of the International Ombudsman Conference commemorating the 30th Anniversary of the Office of the Ombudsman in Malta, the first thematic panel will focus on:

Theme 1: Building People’s Trust – The Ombudsman as a Pillar of Democracy in Times of Change

Public trust is the foundation of democratic governance. Without it, institutions lose legitimacy, and the social contract weakens. This session will explore how Ombudsman institutions serve as visible and credible guarantors of fairness, helping to strengthen a person’s confidence in democracy during moments of transition and uncertainty.
