The Commissioner for Education proposes talks on the Ombudsman and Good Governance to students of Church schools

The Commissioner for Education, Chief Justice Emeritus Vincent De Gaetano, addressed a meeting of the Heads of Church Schools organised by the Secretariat for Catholic Education of the Archdiocese of Malta. The Commissioner was invited to present an outreach initiative by the Office of the Ombudsman which emphasises the importance of enriching the civic knowledge of Malta’s youths. Under this initiative, the Office plans to organise interactive talks for Year 10, 11, and Sixth Form students aimed at improving their understanding of governance and civic responsibilities.

The talks will provide an overview of the Ombudsman’s role and functions. Focusing on the Ombudsman’s role as a mediator between the public and public institutions, these sessions are designed to explain the Ombudsman’s contribution to the promotion of fairness and justice in public administration.

Additionally, the talks will explain the services offered by the Ombudsman’s Office, offering insights into the investigative process and the Ombudsman’s interaction with Parliament.

Public Administration and the Right to Good Administration are crucial focal points in these talks. This includes making students aware of their rights and duties, of the importance of a transparent and accountable public sector, and of the need to reinforce democratic values and efficient governance.
