The Office of the Ombudsman continues to deliver positive outcomes for the public, with a significant majority of its recommendations being successfully implemented by public entities. Between January and October 2024, 59% of cases resolved in favour of complainants resulted in tangible remedies.
This achievement underscores the Ombudsman’s effectiveness in advocating for fairness and accountability within public administration. During this period, the office closed 503 cases—a 35% increase compared to the same period last year—with 76 of these cases resulting in decisions favouring the complainant.
The Ombudsman also saw a rise in public engagement, receiving 487 complaints—a 10% increase compared to 2023—and assisting 648 individuals, marking a remarkable 130% growth in assistance provided.
The Ombudsman Judge Emeritus Joseph Zammit McKeon, in an interview with TVM News, highlighted the trust that the public has in this institution, emphasising the proactive approach in addressing public concerns and ensuring fair resolutions.
