Ombudsman and Commissioner for Education update the House of Representatives on lecturer’s case

On the 27th June 2023, the Ombudsman and the Commissioner for Education updated the Speaker of the House of Representatives in connection with a Final Opinion which had been laid on the Table of the House in May of last year.

In their letter they informed the Speaker that after a local online news portal had decided, in May of this year, to follow the complainant’s case, the University of Malta had finally approached the fully tenured and resident academic and offered him compensation. The compensation offered by the University amounted to about two-thirds of what the Commissioner had recommended. The offer was accepted by the lecturer in question – a third-country national – and the case can now be considered as definitely closed.

The letter to the Speaker can be found here.
