President of Malta and the Ombudsman exchange appreciation as the Presidential term concludes

In an exchange of letters, the President of Malta, H.E. George Vella, and the Parliamentary Ombudsman, Judge Emeritus Joseph Zammit McKeon, expressed gratitude and appreciation as the President’s term ends tomorrow, 4th April 2024.

In his letter, the President expressed his thanks for the support provided by the Ombudsman during his presidency. Reflecting on the achievements and challenges of his tenure, President Vella emphasised the remarkable level of collaboration and willingness demonstrated by the Ombudsman, which served as a source of encouragement throughout his term.

President Vella praised the collaborative efforts and noted their significant contribution to the smooth functioning of the Office of the President. President Vella concluded by wishing the Ombudsman continued success.

In response, the Ombudsman conveyed heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the Office of the Ombudsman for the President’s exemplary service to the country. Acknowledging the significant challenges faced during the Presidency, including the pandemic and constitutional changes, the Ombudsman commended President Vella for consistently demonstrating honesty, integrity, and moral courage. He also expressed appreciation for the President’s recognition of the Ombudsman’s work and the valuable support provided by the President and his staff.

Highlighting the trust placed in the Office of the Ombudsman by the people of Malta, the Ombudsman reaffirmed the commitment to upholding democracy and the rule of law. He concluded by extending warm wishes to President Vella, Mrs. Vella, and their family for a peaceful and healthy retirement.
