Statement by the Office of the Parliamentary Ombudsman

With reference to reports carried yesterday in a section of the media regarding the issue of lack of jurisdiction on complaints filed by Army Officers with the Parliamentary Ombudsman, this Office confirms that the Ombudsman has informed the parties on how he intended to proceed with his investigation if the matter is not satisfactorily resolved within a definite timeframe.

This information was never intended nor should it be construed to be a threat or an ultimatum.

The Ombudsman augurs that the issue of jurisdiction can still be resolved without the need for further action.
