The Parliamentary Ombudsman to attend the 8th Meeting of the Association of Mediterranean Ombudsmen:  Will propose the setting up of The International Ombudsman Law Institute in Malta

The Parliamentary Ombudsman, Chief Justice Emeritus Joseph Said Pullicino, will be attending the 8th Meeting of the Association of Mediterranean Ombudsmen (AOM), which will be held in Albania. The theme of the meeting is ‘Strengthening democracy: which partners for the Ombudsmen?

During the meeting the Parliamentary Ombudsman will be proposing the setting up of an International Ombudsman Law Institute (IOLI) in Malta, an autonomous and independent seat of advanced learning in legal and public administration studies focusing on Ombudsman legislation and its relevance in the wider context of good public administration. The aim of the institute will be to create a nucleus of graduates hailing mostly from countries from Southern Europe and North Africa.

The Ombudsman will encourage members of the AOM to examine his proposal and give their reaction, required support and participation needed to take further steps to realise the project which should greatly contribute to the strengthening of the Ombudsman Institution and democracy in the Mediterranean area.

The Parliamentary Ombudsman is the current Treasurer of the AOM.
